An inventory of Tacoma’s summer festivals

In Tacoma, everyone likes to make their own festival. At this point, it is still unclear if it is a very good or very bad idea to attempt to fill the more than 30 weekend days throughout the summer with vigorous activity.

Summer after summer we end up with an escalating series of glorified block parties, each attracting between 50 and 5,000 people scattered all over the city and scheduled on top of each other; but maybe that’s just the way of it.

Maybe for another decade, we just need to keep wading through the facebook invites, random emails, and surprise posters and fliers thrown around coffee shops the day before the event before we can really find a few signature events to be proud of. Cynicism aside, some of these events are darn good, and as June approaches it looks like we may just have some real contenders out there so let’s do a little inventorying, shall we? And please let us know if there are more out there!

That’s not all: keep in mind the regularly occurring Summer events:

There you go, Tacomans. Fill up those calendars,  let me know what I forgot, and let me know what I got wrong!

  1. How do we get added to your calendar! The 7th Annual Stadium Art & Wine Walk is now adding craft beer and our new name is Stadium Art, Wine & Beer Walk on Saturday Sept 19th from 4-8 pm. You can call or text me at 253-381-7447. This event is sponsored by the Stadium Historic Business District Association.

    Thank you

  2. Hey Katy! We love being on this list with all these other great summer options!
Please adjust our information to read the following: Actual Name – Tacoma Pride Festival. Tacoma Pride Festival runs July 10th – 18th, 2015. On July 11th, Tacoma Pride Festival has two major events, OUT IN THE PARK from noon – 5:00 pm and The Mix’s Annual PRIDE Block Party from 5:00 pm – midnight. There are a series of other affiliated events that day alone as well as our 6 other official and affiliated events during Tacoma Pride Week. Thanks so much for the plug! We’re soooo excited for July!
