Change: A Poem

Later, when the light decided to keep going,
I was afraid, and then tired.
I’m beginning to know why:

it was change,
gently moving, humming,
like an untold story.

I looked and saw a new insect,
like every insect I’ve ever seen,
crawling on it’s belly,

making a path through the yard.
He was already halfway across.
I didn’t see him start,

and I won’t see him finish,
but here I am for this part,
to watch him working, forging ahead.

He doesn’t know
that his green beetle back
is carrying me along with him
for a little while.
