The Post Defiance two year anniversary party
On Saturday August 17, Post Defiance threw a party to thank our readers and showcase just a little of what we love about Tacoma.
Then we moved the festivities to the W.W. Seymour Botanical Conservatory where Lobsana, Rockwell Powers, Apartment Lights, and Will Jordan serenaded us while we enjoyed refreshments from Hilltop Kitchen and Bluebeard Coffee. There the concert was recorded by new app Lively, making the live show available for free download.
We wrapped up the night at King’s Books where Mr. Melanin* and friends spun records, Rosie Cheex of the Gritty City Sirens performed a tantalizing striptease, and the instructors of MLK Ballet helped us dance the night away.
The event was not only a ridiculous amount of fun, it was our first successful fundraiser.
Our event sponsors – Hilltop Kitchen, Lively, King’s Books, The Warehouse, Bluebeard Coffee, Diecut Stickers, Harbor Greens, and Raisl & Company P.S. – made this event possible, and have helped us take a big step forward in sustaining our work and supporting our contributors.
The party also featured overstuffed VIP gift bags to the fifteen Post Defiance supporters willing to fork over the cash for a $60 ticket.
Thanks to Wood and Metal, Polyrev, The Grand Cinema, King’s Books, Springtide Press, Anagram Press, 7 Seas, Slide Sideways, Limitless Design, Pure Vintage, Broken Spoke, Pint Defiance, and Hilltop Artists for filling up the tote bags of our readers.
We are still barely recovered but are overwhelmed by the appreciation of our readers and supporters.
Thank you for all you do for this community, and we look forward to another year of exploration, contemplation, enthusiasm, and criticism here in our fair city.
